# Adding dynamo powered lights to a road bike with a SON28 hub dynamo

*Building a dynamo wheel and hiding the wiring inside the frame.*

> To add dynamo lights to my dynamo-less road bike I had a new wheel built around a SON28 hub dynamo with 32 spoke holes, then routed the wiring through the fork and frame to front and rear lights.

My Schindelhauer Siegfried Road had no dynamo, so I asked the factory for a fitting wheel. They could not supply one, but gave me a rim and the exact spec I needed: a SON28 hub dynamo with 32 spoke holes. A local wheel builder laced the custom wheel, because tensioning a wheel properly is beyond my own skill. For the wiring I drilled a small hole in one of the aero shaped frame tubes and removed the bottom bracket, crank and pedals to reach inside. I first pushed a stiff copper cable through as a guide, then used it to pull the thin wires. The rear light cable runs down through the seat post. I soldered the leads, shrink wrapped them, and left spare cable with clamp connectors so parts can be removed later.
