# Punkt MP01, a phone without apps or internet

*Calling and texting only, with a battery that lasts weeks.*

> The Punkt MP01 is a mobile phone deliberately built without apps or internet: it only calls and texts. When I started using it in 2016, its minimal software meant the battery lasted weeks between charges.

The MP01 was designed as a simple phone for basic calling and text messaging. It has big round buttons with a satisfying clicky tap and runs a minimal operating system that is neither Android nor iOS. There are no apps beyond a built-in alarm and a calendar that only shows the date; you cannot even save appointments.
It does support bluetooth carkits, and because the phone does so little, its relatively large battery lasts weeks before it needs a charge. The box contains a booklet, a charger, a SIM tool and a headset.
I bought it for a three month experiment: deliberately creating boredom, because the constant stream of messages and lookups on a smartphone was hindering my creativity. Internet access remained available, but only through my laptop.
