Can you run your own datacenter at home?

Answer

I did, in a basement, on a 600Mbit symmetric fibre connection, and wrote up what it takes. At company scale I went a step further and built a 72TB NAS on an HPE ProLiant DL380. The honest caveat is that a home connection and a rack in a datacenter are not the same thing: the fun is real, and so is the difference in power, cooling and uptime.
