Google Analytics or AWStats: which should you use?

They measure different things, which is why their numbers never match and why the argument about which is better usually misses the point. AWStats reads the server's own logs and therefore sees everything that reached the server, including bots. Analytics runs in the visitor's browser and therefore sees only visitors who execute its script. Knowing which question you are asking tells you which number to trust.
