Is it worth repairing things instead of replacing them?

It is a running theme in my writing and a growing antipathy to planned obsolescence. I have serviced an iRobot Roomba that has run since 2011, replaced the retention system in a Giro helmet I liked too much to throw away, fixed a cargo bike shift cable after it caught a branch while hunting for bears with my son, and rescued a MacBook Air with an exploded battery. A takeaway plastic bag, designed for one use, is what got me thinking about all of it.
