On the Framework Laptop 13 I assembled in 2025, with an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U board, Debian installed from a USB drive without issue: networking, trackpad and display all worked out of the box.

I downloaded a Debian installation ISO and created a bootable USB drive on a Windows PC. The Framework boot menu recognised it immediately and the Debian installer ran without issue. Networking, trackpad and display features worked out of the box, a relief compared to the patchy Linux support I have met on other laptops. The machine was the DIY edition: I chose the board with the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U (up to 5.1GHz, 8 cores and 16 threads) and a standard Linux keyboard layout, which Framework offers as a stock option. After installation my next step was preparing Debian for daily use: installing developer tools, enabling encryption and refining workflows, part of my shift to free software and fewer cloud dependencies.
